Convert FFT output from unit-less value to Hz

Mar 4, 2010 at 10:26 PM

Hi,

I'm trying to use NAudio to get spectrum histogram values of audio files, which I will then use as input to another application.  I looked at the source for the Spectrum Analyzer to see how it consumes the FFT output.  I understand that it is plotting the magnitude of each complex value as the y value of a point in the PolyLine, and using the position n in the FFT output array as the x value of the point.  Is it possible to translate this x value to the corresponding frequency in Hz in the original audio?

Thanks,

Ben

I can't remember the equation off the top of my head. Ask at Music-DSP (http://www.musicdsp.org/) or on the KVR developer forum (http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=33) or even on stackoverflow (http://stackoverflow.com/) and you should get your answer
